Learning to Drive

Driving is one of the most important life skills you will ever gain. But Learning to Drive can sometimes be a frustrating not to mentioned costly experience. So finding the right Instructor is essential to ensure that you learn to drive safely and correctly, not just to pass your Driving Test, but to ensure you drive safely for life.

The number of lessons needed various hugely from person to person. Some people take less than 20 hours, others will need many more. According to the Driving Standards Agency, the average person in the UK takes around 45 hours with a professional instructor, with an additional 20 hours of private practice!

What ever your age or ability we will tailor our tuition to suit YOU! Rest assured, if you only need a few lessons we will advise you to book your test sooner rather than later. If you need more tuition that’s fine too, our Instructors are patient and thorough and will always give you honest and professional advice.

At Freedom, we guarantee you a professional and reliable service from Instructors who are dedicated to Road Safety and to you!

So what do you need to do?

  1. Before you can start learning to drive, you will need your Provisional Driving Licence, this currently costs £50 and you can apply for it online using the link on the right.
  2. Once you have your Provisional Driving Licence ring us at Freedom on 0161 973 8833 or email us at FreedomNWest@topmail.co.uk to arrange your first Driving Lesson.
  3. Using the Theory Test CDRom (that we will give you free of charge) study for and pass your Theory Test. We will also give you any additional support or help that you may need. To book your Theory Test you can use the DSA Link on the right or we will book it for you.
  4. Enjoy your Driving Lessons with Freedom and when both you and your Instructor feel that you are ready, book and pass your Practical Driving Test. We will even book your test and come with you if you want us to!
  5. Look forward to your Freedom and years of safe driving!

The Driving Instructors

At the moment, there are two of us – Andy Bracken and myself Julie Taylor.

Both Andy and myself are highly trained and fully qualified DSA Approved Driving Instructors. We have an enthusiastic approach to teach you to drive, using modern methods in a safe and professional, yet relaxed and friendly way. We both believe in providing you with the best possible service. Between us we have over 40 years driving experience that we want to pass on to you.

Cost of Driving Lessons

Initial Trial Lesson£ 10.00 per hour
Normal Lesson Rate£ 20.00 per hour
Block Booking Prices£190.00 for 10 Lessons (£19 per hour, paid in advance only)
£360.00 for 20 Lessons (£18 per hour, paid in advance only)
Pass Plus Course£150.00 for 6 hours (10% discount if you are an existing Freedom pupil)

1 Hour FREE Tuition with our Pupil Recommendation Scheme*

If you recommend a friend to Freedom, once they have completed their first lesson with us you will get 1 hour FREE tuition as a thank you from us*.

DSA Charges for Theory and Practical Tests As At 1st April 2008

Theory Test Fee£ 30.00
Practical Test Fee£ 56.50 (weekdays)
£ 67.00 (weekends)

(These fees are applied by the DSA. In addition, when taking a practical test, should you wish to use your Instructors vehicle, then the normal hourly rate will apply.)

Pass Plus Courses

Once you have passed your Practical Test, Pass Plus is a course of lessons (minimum 6 hours) designed to enable you to gain more experience behind the wheel of a car, it’s a little like an advanced drivers course.

The course consists of 6 modules, these are:

There is no test at the end, your Instructor will assess you during your lessons, and will teach you to a high standard. Once you have successfully completed the course you will receive a certificate from the DSA (Driving Standards Agency).

Pass Plus is recognised by the car insurance industry and many companies will offer you a good discount on your car insurance if you hold a Pass Plus Certificate, sometimes as much as 40%!!
